Learn to view orders, positions, and trade records in financial markets using MT4.
View information on orders, positions and trade records
Orders and positions, as well as account information, can be viewed in the Terminal > Trade tab, located at the bottom of the screen.
- Order Information (new orders in progress or pending orders for new position entries). These are shown below Balance in the Trade Tab.
- Positions. These are open positions above the ‘Balance on Trade tab
- Account Information (balance, margin)
Order ID
An automatically assigned number used to identify an order.
Time
The agreed time or date when opening the order.
Type
Sell = Short position
Buy = Long position
Buy Limit = Limit order to buy.
Sell Limit = Limit order to sell.
Buy Stop = Stop order to buy.
Sell Stop = Stop order to sell.
Size
The number of lots in the order or position.
Symbol
The instrument of the order or position.
Price
The price of an open position or pending new order.
S/L
The designated price for a protective stop-loss order an open position or contingent stop-loss of a new order. Note: A value of zero means no S/L is placed.
T/P
The designated take-profit order for an open position or pending new order. A value of zero means no T/P is placed.
Current Price
The current market price. Displayed as the bid price for sell orders and the ask price for buy orders.
Swap:
The profit or loss generated by the interest rate differential between currencies.
Profit
The unrealised profit or loss of an open position, calculated on the current market price should the position be closed.
Balance
The current amount deposited by the client. (Balance = Deposits ± Realized Profit/Loss)
Equity
The amount obtained by adding or subtracting from the balance the unrealized profit/loss of the position. (Equity = Balance ± Unrealized Profit/Loss)
Margin Requirement
The amount of margin required to maintain the current held position.
Free Margin
The remaining funds available to maintain the current position and open new trades.
Margin Level
The ratio of equity to margin requirement, expressed as a percentage.
View account history - trading outcome
In the Account History tab of the Terminal, you can view closed trades and other historical details.
Order
An automatically assigned number is used to identify each order.
Time
The agreed time or date of opening the position.
Type
Balance: Account balance.
Sell = Short position
Buy = Long position
Buy Limit = Limit order to buy.
Sell Limit = Limit order to sell.
Buy Stop = Stop order to buy.
Sell Stop = Stop order to sell.
Size
The number of lots in the order or held position.
Symbol
The instrument of the order or held position.
Price
The agreed price in the order.
Stop-Loss
The designated price for the stop-loss order.
Take-Profit
The designated price for the take-profit order.
Time ( field name appears twice.)
Closeout time of a trade position.
Price
Price of position closing. This is the price a position was closed at.
Swap
The profit or loss generated from the interest rate differential between currencies.
Profit/Loss
The realised profit or loss is calculated on the market price of position closeout.
Viewing other information
In Meta Trader 4, you can also check other information via ‘Alerts’, ‘Email’, ‘Log’, etc.
Notifications from OANDA. You can view upgrade information and other updates from MetaTrader 4 by accessing the ‘Maibox’ tab in the Terminal section.
Market condition notifications. By using the ‘Alerts’ feature in the Terminal, you can set up notifications via voice and email when specified market conditions are met for a particular currency pair.
View operation logs. The ‘Journal’ tab in the Terminal allows you to review thoroughly the trades carried out in Meta Trader 4.
