Lisa Shemie, General Counsel at OANDA, has been appointed to serve as a representative member on the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s GMAC Technical Issues Subcommittee. The Global Markets Advisory Committee was established to advise the CFTC on matters pertaining to the integrity and competitiveness of U.S. markets and U.S. firms engaged in global business, including the regulatory challenges of a global marketplace that reflects the increasing interconnectedness of markets and the multinational nature of business.
The discretionary advisory body, sponsored by CFTC Commissioner Caroline D. Pham, is composed of a range of experts representing financial market infrastructures, market participants (such as OANDA), end-users, service providers, and regulators.
“International collaboration and coordination are critical to promoting financial stability and access to markets. The deep expertise and seasoned experience of our members will be invaluable in proposing pragmatic recommendations for regulatory reform.” the CFTC release stated.
Commenting on her appointment, Lisa Shemie said, “‘I am honored and excited to have the opportunity to contribute to the CFTC’s policy debates as a member of the GMAC’s Technical Issues Subcommittee. I am also very pleased to represent the views and priorities of OANDA, a CFTC-regulated market participant in the U.S., in connection with these discussions."
